His small pads hit the ground steadily as the brute trotted along the quietening street. A large number of humans were situated by an towering building which had a large gold plaque on it's smooth side. To any human it read:
The Art Institute of Chicago
Founded in 1879

But to the small pup, his orbs were only attracted to the glittering gold shine that reflected off the plaque and onto the path marked out for pedestrians. His bodice followed the sparkling shine on the ground for a minute or two, until it became apparent that it wouldn't follow him home. Monti forgot it quickly and tilted his head towards two large statues that shadowed where he was standing. Because of the excitement within the reflection, the brute hadn't noticed the large lions before, but now they amazed him. Monti's immediate reaction was to jump up the marble stairs with his tongue lolling out in a slow pant. But the high winds forced him to stay in the shadowy depth. Eruptions of human giggles caught the puppy's attention as he turned to see a little girl with her hands on her hip, staring continually down at him with a comical smile upon her face. The brute quickly turned his snout into a signature smile and yapped at the human girl. It was intended for her to pick him up and place upon the lion. But that didn't seem so, for a fat woman pottered up and tapped the little girls and, so she wailed from the stinging pain. Monti, not having known what it was for, became defensive to his human friend and turned on the high heeled fatty. Raising his hackles and turning his smile into a cute snarl, the brute barked in a high pitched tone until he was cut short by her even higher screams. Then a large big and black object came rolling towards him and slapped him straight in the face. The poor pup was sent flying backwards and slammed into the stone lion. Small groans escaped from his snout as dizzy orbs watched the crying girl and the fat woman walk away hurriedly.

The mix breed had only seen the pup go flying. Amber eyes rounded out in surprise before she hurried over to the strange child. Glancing down at it, she noted how small he was, and an instant maternal caring rose in her as she nudged the pup with soft, wet nose. Concern for the little being pushed her to wrapping jaws around his ruff, hoping he didn't move while she attempted to lift him up and move him away from the large stone lion that he had been buffetted against.

If the young'un allowed it, she moved him so that she had lain down onto her stomach, while he was nestled into her thick chest fur. Pink tounge would slowly slide along the small head, a comforting gesture that was much more helpful than any words could be.

†

Yet, if he rejected her attempts she would leave him be, only laying down next to him, her silent figure watching over him with the utmost care one could generate for another/ Humans were beastly creatures, and she truly hoped that nothing like this would happen again to a canine of such a young age.

"It will be alright."

The whispered words caressing in quality, hoping that she was indeed telling the truth. Beneath her odd looks, lay a large and beautiful heart that was rare to find in this world where hostility and hatred ran rampant. Never would she fall into the burning grasp of the Devil when she knew that in the end it would destroy her completely if she held onto the coals of her anger. Sighing briefly, thoughts returned to the pup.

The brute had not thankfully hit his head so hard that unconsciousness followed but it was going to leave a nasty bruise with a bad headache. It didn't bother the puppy at that moment though for jaw locked him and he was too confused to struggle back. He could of been going anywhere, but Monti just slumped limp in the wet caverns that held him and released him onto a warm and silky surface. In instinct, Monti nuzzled at the chest so he could creep more of the warmth towards him. Then carefully, the brute let his dark orbs squint open to see the motherly fae looking down at his black and white mass. Putting on a cute smile for her, she was now his Saviour and had stolen his heart. The soft licks to his head made the pain easier to bare, but the pup winced every now and then. All he was trying to do was save the poor child from the dreaded fat woman. Monti cursed her living soul in his mind and drew a hatred ring around her bloated appearance. When the whispers were released from the fae's snout, Monti opened his eyes wider and squirmed for a second or so before replying with gentle squeaks.
My head hurts..
The strength used by moving and talking made the puppy weary and he settled down in the comfort zone and drifted carefully off to sleep. The world outside gave him no doubts for he felt totally safe in the fae's paws. Let it be hoped, he was safe.
