If only...
The skies were warm and luminous, its honey golden rays casting dancing shadows of amber as the sun set beyond the horizen. Sitting and watching the goodness in the land was Luka, the lone femoria who had been traveling a while now. This was the first time she had ever been in Chicago, but she wished so much of her old home of happiness. Oh sure, she was a housedog but she didn't care. She loved the feeling of stroked ears, full tummy, and clean fur. As she thought of these things she didn't have, she felt her belly grumble and looked down at her paws, only to see them grimy and dirt crusted. Kicking them across the cooling boards of the pier, Luka sighed and looked out to the sea, eyes full of mourn and sadness. Things in the city was tuff, and she wished that she had her old life still.
As though something read her mind, Luka felt something petting her. Alarmed, she glanced up to see a small child patting her back. Giggling, it smiled at the dog and gave it a hug. Luka sat there happy and good, but then something pierced her ears and the child was gone. An angry face glared down at her contorted in unimaginale(sp?) rage. Luka laid her ears on her skull, but then she was smacked across the head while hearing, "Naughty dog! Bad! Go away beast!" Luka whimpered and took off, running on the chocolate colored planks in sadness. If dogs could cry, this would be one of those times.
After running away, Luka stopped to where no humans were as the last sunshine hit. Plunged into darkness was where she was now sky turning a dark blue. Sitting to her haunches as and wrapping her light cocoa whipcord around her shivering bodice, Luka looked around with amber eyes scared and puzzled. But yet a burst of anger flared inside her and she spat, Humans. Don't know a damn thing from good or bad. Or was Luka truely like the rest? A street delinquent that caused chaos to all? She got to her paws and then raised her crown to the skies, baying a large angry cry of hatred. Someday they would pay for abandoning her.

Golden pads made the signature 'click-click' and Riley walked along the peir, only to stop when he heard a dog howl. His ears perked, and he begun looking for the howl's owner. As he walked further into the shadows, he found it. A fea.
'Humans. Don't know a damn thing from good or bad' she had said. "Tell me about it." he replied with a huff, understanding exactly what she was talking about. "Don't care even if you're a nice dog. If you look even the slightest bit dirty, whack. " he added, nodding as he sat down on his haunches. "The name's Riley. What's your's?" he asked, giving the fea a small smile. Even if she wasn't friendly, she had no reason to be mad at him, for all he had done was agree with her.
((sorry.. crummy post.. but I have to go =P ))

Shaken...
Jumping slightly as the sound of voices invaded the silence, Luka looked up only to see a friendly brute. She listened to his words and nodded agreeingly, then smiled. "I'm Luka. Nice to meet you Riley. It wasn't everyday in the streets when you met another canid who wasn't trying to rape or murder you and it felt kept charming to actually speak with another. This hadn't happened to the weimarener mix for quite the while and oh how she wished she had! Luka had to keep this saved, cherish it until it ended, then she'd be alone once more.
I'll have to agree with you Riley. Humans. Nasty creatures they are.. Her warm amber eyes loomed in the darkness and bodice heaved up to full stance. The docks creaked underfoot but she ignored them. "So,"[/b[ she said casually, [b]"Where'd you come from?" This brought back memories of her past that burned her insides to a shrivel. She had come from humans, a nice family. But they had all died in a collision leaving poor Luka to be sent to the pound. Then she had been adopted by a rude fellow who would starve and neglect her until she finally escaped one night...with shards in her to prove it. The man had chucked things at her as she slipped through the chain, but it was enough to scar her emotionally forever.
Pushing the past out of her mind, Luka smiled once more at the dandy male and dipped her head in a forgettful greeting. Her tail showered her bottom showing no harm and ears laid flat showing she meant respect. Getting back to normal, she clicked back to her former sitting position and wagged her long whipcord,waiting patiently.

Riley's lips pulled into a soft smile. Luka. Very pretty name.. he thought to himself, wagging his feathered tassel slightly. He was glad to see that she was a friendly fea, one who wouldn't try to kill him. He dipped his head lightly back to her in greeting, not sure exactly if he was doing this all right. He hadn't talked to many dogs. Ever. Unless you wanted to count his siblings and mother. But that was so very long ago. He shrugged it off, knowing that as long as he could talk, and be friendly, then he was doing just fine.
"Well, If you mean of my past, I'm from a street called '5th'... in New York I believe. My mother was hit by a car when I was quite a young pup, and I finally just decided to move along. I've been traveling ever since, and finally, I found my way here." he explained, replying to her question. "But if you mean right now.. well.. I'm the alpha male of the Junk Yard." he added, sitting up a little straighter, proud that he had a home. He knew it didn't sound very pleasing... king of the junk yard... but at least it was somewhere to call home.
He couldn't help but wonder if this lovely fea was looking ...for a home. "And where are you from, Luka?" he asked, tilting his head slightly in thought. He didn't know for sure, but he couldn't help but think she was once a pet. He himself was used to the rugged life of a street dog, for it was all he had ever known. But this perticular fea looked more like one that had once been deeply loved by someone. Riley had never cared much for humans, they scared him, in fact. But he knew the small ones were harmless. It was the adult humans you had to watch out for.
Trying to pull his thoughts together, he looked back up at Luka, his mind snapping back to the question he had asked her, and he gave another small smile, waiting for her reply.

Luka's attention was once again drawn back to the male and she listened intently, ears pricked happily. Hearing his story, he managed to catch the glimpse of him being alpha. "Alpha eh?" she said, a glimmer of mischierf beaming in her golden gaze. "That's a surprise." Smiling in spite of herself, she listened once more then let the smile fade. Looking sheepishly around anxiously, she murmered so only Riley could hear, "I was born a housepet, simple as day huh?" she said, the smile once again coming onto her face, "I was sold away from my mum and taken to a home with many children, the nice little ones. I had grown up with them but then when I was two they got into a car crash, all of the family being killed." Pausing, Luka sweeped her eyes to face Riley, "I was then taken to a horrible place where all where locked in tiny kennels. They fed and watered me, sometimes taking me outside but nothing else. But one day a man came in and got me, taking me to his small unkept home. I was chained in the back and once in a while tossed a bit of food. At night I would howl, wishing to be free again and so my hatred of humans began." her voice suddenly became cold and sullen, orbs burning in the night, "So when he was going to take me somewhere, I escaped from him. He had chucked shards of things at me, glass, pipes, and evem the chain. But I lept the small fence to freedom, and now I am here."
She gazed at him, eyes suddenly turning wet and sad. She hated humans, every last one of them! And now she had not a place in the world to go, nowhere. Luka would be lonely forever on the streets! But suddenly, an idead triggered her mind and she weaned on it a bit. Finally bitting her lip, Luka said politely, "Well since that's over, how about I ask you something." Pausing as a smile lit up her face, Luka beamed, "May I join your pack Riley? Please?"

Riley's ears drooped a bit as she told him it was a surprise. Yes, he knew he probably wasn't the toughest brute out there, but he could fight like hell if he needed to. His heart sank a little, and his gaze rolled down to his feet, embarrassed to look at the fea almost. As she continued with her story, he nodded sympathetically at the times that were needed, but other than that, his gaze stayed to the ground. He knew she was probably just joking around with him, trying to get in a laugh. He shrugged it off, trying to forget she said it at all.
He winced a little as she told about her previous owner had thrown things at her that could really hurt a dog, and his gaze finally shifted back up towards the fea, partially out of curiosity. His eyes scanned her bodice, lookng for scars of any kind. He couldn't see any right at that moment, but probably because she was facing him, and the human had thrown things at her back, for she had been runnung away as he did so. He guessed she would be watching him through the whole ordeal, and his gaze shot back up to her face, so maybe she wouldn't see him looking over her body like he was looking for her weakest point of attack or something like that.
Being a little zoned out, thinking about her past, and his past, the only thing that caught his attention was "May I join your pack Riley? Please?" His ears perked up, and his pools shown with glee. She really wanted to be a part of his pack?! He shook his head a little, praying she hadn't seen him flip out over her simple question. He wondered if it should be that easy. A simple 'yes' or 'no'. He looked at her with a sortof look you give someone when you're thinking, but you don't want to lose their attention.
He knew from the moment the question registered in his mind that she would be welcome. Any dog that was once a pet, who doesn't know how to survive the streets that well... they needed a home more than any other dog out there. He finally let a grin spread across his face, and he nodded. "Why, of course you can Luka." he replied, his tassel wagging like crazy behing himself. He had his first member! He couldn't really grasp the fact that now he was actually leading another dog, but he would soon enough.

Luka's long whipcord made thumping noises against the dogs as she leapt to her paws and dipped her crown at the bru. Her face was screwed up in unimaginable gratitude and she gave a weimie bawl of happiness. Unbowing her dipped head, Luka smiled widely at Riley just as the morning came shining through. She glanced away momentarily, looking across the dull colored skies..promising the snow that she hated. After sleeping in it, you'd never want to be in it again.
As though her thoughts came to life, fluffy chunks of snow came floating across the skies. The flakes landed on her bodice, melting as they came into her atmosphere. She shivered to herself, but shifted her amber gaze back to Riley, the sweet smile tweaking her kissers. "Thanks Riley! I needed a place to go. I promise that I'll be loyal and always there for the pack." said Luka with honey. Her whip wagged again, brushing the snowflakes off the planks leaving trails in the newly fallen snow.
Snow? Luka finally relized this might be a problem. Glancing around as the water seemed to turn rapid and the snow swirled, she felt sick. Luka shook her pelt once more, kicking the little bits of frost away. Looking back at Riley, Luka grinned and murmered, "We should probably get to..." Luka paused, trying to think where he said. Had he even said anything? "The Headquarters."

Riley's tassel wagged along with Luka's, his smile growing a little more as she bowed to him. He nodded lightly back at her, and then stood, shaking his coat free of the snow that was stuck to his mediun-leingth fur. As he finished shaking, he nodded his head. "Yes.. we should be heading home. There are some very nice places to stay warm at the junk yard. I'll show them to you!" he said with a yip at the end, his eyes growing a little with embarrassment. "I mean.. I'll show you where they are..." he added, trying to calm himself down.
He was, indeed, still a young dog, only three years of age. But he had never really had a puppy-hood, for he had spent it on the streets with no time for socializing. He wagged his tassel more, and his lips pulled back into a smile once more, and then he tossed his head to one side a little, giving her a little 'lets go' gesture. He took a few steps, realizing that this snow was freezing cold on his feet. But he didn't really mind, they would be home soon enough.
His amber eyes scanned the terra a moment, and then he looked back at Luka to make sure she was coming. The last thing he wanted was for her to get lost. He silently scolded himself for thinking about the worst possible thing that could happen, and then turned back around, continuing on with his walk towards home. Their home.
((OOC- Okay.. I'll make a new post at the Junk Yard later.. I've gotta go right now though.. =P ))
